Hypebeast 20 - The X Issue

Sporting a 90's vibe, Hypebeast 20 - The X Issue is a uniquely retro editorial project designed by Hybrid Design studio out of San Francisco. Combining a classic editorial feel with graffiti-esque hand drawings, the style and feel are reminiscent of Raygun and the work of David Carson. Showing its face more and more lately, this 90's feel is even recognizable in the upcoming film Captain Marvel.

The Future of Retail?

nike makers experience chris frank

Nike has introduced an exciting concept that would allow customers to design their own footwear and have it 3D printed and ready-to-wear in less than 90 minutes. The Nike Makers’ Experience (it is invite-only at the moment) is housed at the Nike By You Studio at 45 Grand St and each guest is invited to wear a blank slip-on version of the Nike Presto X shoe, a silhouette created exclusively for the experience.

Augmented reality, object tracking and projection systems then bring designs to life right on the guest’s feet. Once the final design is chosen, the shoe actually gets produced on site and is available a little more than an hour later.

Google and Vogue have partnered to bring the magazine's September issue to voice-activated home devices, alluding that Google Home will start to open up to marketers and publishers.

Together they've created voice content with the magazine’s writers about the stories they wrote for the issue. For example, saying, “OK Google, ask Vogue to tell me more about Jennifer Lawrence,” prompts Jason Gay, who wrote Vogue’s cover story about Lawrence, to talk about interviewing the actress.

According to a Google rep, Vogue’s partnership is “the first of its kind,” so it will be intriguing to see whether other publishers and marketers strike similar deals in the coming months.

Made In London

Really enjoying Design Milk's new short documentary series Made in London. This month's video features shoe-maker Allan Baudoin, who's story is especially inspiring having left a job in tech for the tactile experience of creating a custom pair of shoes. His insights about a customer's experience with a product are intimately spelled out within the short.

The idea of knowing the maker is always a big thing for the customer. Customers follow makers, they don’t follow the brand.
— Allan Baudoin
I was so much into computers and not doing anything with my hands, that it appealed a lot. I spent two years in the workshop, looking and helping my own shoemakers – and the rest is mostly self-taught.
