Perception Vs. Reality

As Rolling Stone magazine just put itself up for sale, it's interesting to look back at one of their more iconic ad campaigns aimed at broadening their readership. The "Perception Vs. Reality" campaign sought to generate more advertising revenue by using visual metaphors to show who the typical Rolling Stone reader actually was—not who he/she was thought to be.

At that time, the brand still had a large and engaged audience of readers, but ad buyers tended to dismiss them as dope-smoking hippies who weren’t a valuable target for ads.

The ad reads, “For a new generation of Rolling Stone readers, expressing your individuality does not mean wearing your birthday suit to a rock festival. During the past 12 months, Rolling Stone readers purchased more than 80 million items of apparel, setting the trends and shaping the buying patterns for the most influential consumers in America. Your media buy looks conspicuously naked if you’re not exposing yourself in the pages of Rolling Stone.”

Southampton, New York: A Private Retreat


At first glance, it’s impossible to tell where the Old Sag Harbor Road residence is located as it’s surrounded by trees in its own private enclave. The four-story contemporary home in Southampton, New York offers an escape from real life with its peaceful landscape making it feel like a sanctuary. It was designed by Blaze Makoid Architecture, with the help of one of the homeowners who’s an interior designer with a freshly obtained architecture degree, to be a retreat perched atop of the wooded lot that comes complete with seamless indoor/outdoor living.


A negative edge swimming pool is just steps away from the main living area, connected by floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that disappear.

The Humanity Star

This shiny, spherical satellite resembling a disco ball is currently traveling around our planet in an attempt to "to serve as a focal point for humanity and reminder about our fragile place in the universe".

No matter where you are in the world, or what is happening in your life, everyone will be able to see the Humanity Star in the night sky.

The satellite is made from carbon fiber and has 65 reflective panels that reflect sunlight back to Earth. The Humanity Star spins rapidly, creating a blinking flashing effect. 

The Humanity Star launched in January from New Zealand and orbits the Earth every 90 minutes. It will continue through September before it starts to decay and is pulled back into Earth's gravity, ultimately burning up on reentry. You can track in real-time the location of the satellite on a website.

House in the Dunes


An architect and 3D animation specialist, Michał Szulik is the mastermind behind the House of Dunes project. The beautiful interior and exterior design of this home is a shining example of minimalism, using accent pieces such as walls and hardware to contrast the white negative space that dominates the home. Utilizing a black and white color scheme and reclaimed wood throughout, this home is brilliantly thought-out and decorated. And the most interesting part of this home? It is 100% computer-rendered and not the least bit real. Enjoy the video at the end of the blog which shows a rendered walkthrough of this lovely concept home.


Cozy Cotton


Specializing in furniture, art, cooking products, linens, and other home accessories, Cozy Cotton is a Korean online shop focused on home furnishing. Tom Jueris spearheaded this beautiful packaging and branding project for the company. His elegant combination of all-caps serif, italic, and handwritten fonts create a personalized and upscale feeling, further propelled by the simple yet luxurious photography.

Volvo Ocean Race Programme

Volvo has a history of being socially and ethically conscious of their environmental impact and creating ways to mitigate their footprint on climate change. They've recently announced a new program that aims to help preserve our oceans. 

The Volvo Ocean Race Science Programme equips boats in this year’s race with a variety of sensors that will capture data from some of the remotest parts of the world’s oceans. This includes temperatures, barometric pressure, currents and wind speed, which will help contribute to more accurate weather forecasts and climate models used by scientists globally.

The car itself will help tackle the problem of marine pollution, as the carpet inlays are made from Econyl, a fabric made from 100% recycled nylon, including abandoned fishing nets reclaimed from the seabed. The V90 Cross Country Volvo Ocean Race was developed by Volvo designers and a group of engineers within the company’s Special Vehicles department, a purpose-built facility at Volvo Cars’ base in Torslanda, Sweden. The engineers at Special Vehicles specialize in developing bespoke models and are also responsible for Volvo Cars’ ultra-luxurious Excellence models as well as the police version of the V90 and V90 Cross Country.

World Cup 2018 - France Illustrated


In the wake of France taking the victory in the 2018 World Cup Final, French artist Yann Dalon created these stunning illustrations to honor and commemorate this year's champs. Yann combines traditional painting styles such as watercolor and acrylic with digital techniques using Photoshop and a tablet to create his masterpieces, and has a clear mission with his work: he draws and paints with the desire to transcribe movement, with the ambition of 'moving a fixed picture.'

I’m very proud of this work, an order of the French Football Federation (FFF) for the decoration of the Russian Hotel for the World Cup 2018 in the town of Istra. 23 compositions for the doors of each bedroom of the players, 4 for the coach Didier Deschamps and the staff, and 2 big wall murals.

Located in Budapest, Hungary, DekoRatio Branding & Design Studio is a mecca for interior design, epitomizing the intersection of influence and inspiration. From their basic identity to their sliding doors that cleverly change messaging written on the wall behind it, no stone was left unturned in this beautifully and brilliantly designed space.

The DekoRatio office not only provides an experience to its visitors, but also acts as a showroom for interior design. The space is divided into two parts in the angle of a "K": an industrial space and an all-white office space. This division speaks to the studio's ability to execute brand strategy and also to produce signs and prints.
