Southampton, New York: A Private Retreat

Blaze-Makoid-Temple-Brown-house-2-810x540.jpg

At first glance, it’s impossible to tell where the Old Sag Harbor Road residence is located as it’s surrounded by trees in its own private enclave. The four-story contemporary home in Southampton, New York offers an escape from real life with its peaceful landscape making it feel like a sanctuary. It was designed by Blaze Makoid Architecture, with the help of one of the homeowners who’s an interior designer with a freshly obtained architecture degree, to be a retreat perched atop of the wooded lot that comes complete with seamless indoor/outdoor living.

A negative edge swimming pool is just steps away from the main living area, connected by floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that disappear.

The Humanity Star

christopher a. frank humanity star.png

This shiny, spherical satellite resembling a disco ball is currently traveling around our planet in an attempt to "to serve as a focal point for humanity and reminder about our fragile place in the universe".

No matter where you are in the world, or what is happening in your life, everyone will be able to see the Humanity Star in the night sky.
— Peter Beck | Founder of Rocket Lab

The satellite is made from carbon fiber and has 65 reflective panels that reflect sunlight back to Earth. The Humanity Star spins rapidly, creating a blinking flashing effect.

The Humanity Star launched in January from New Zealand and orbits the Earth every 90 minutes. It will continue through September before it starts to decay and is pulled back into Earth's gravity, ultimately burning up on reentry. You can track in real-time the location of the satellite on a website.

Cargobot Brand Identity

h3l © shared a super cool brand identity project for Cargobot.

The development of Cargobot's identity is inspired by classical modernism. The briefing and corporate requirement raised design slogans based on concepts such as "friendly", "close", "direct" and "digital", among others.

The development of the brand identity project covered diverse thematic axes based on the most specific attributes of the business covered by the company. Abstract triggers as symbolism coming from the territory of settlement and gestation, their projective interests; more figurative axes such as roads and routes, to truck operators and distribution plants; the philosophy of life, its consumer behavior, ideals and its various elements related to the industry. From the synthesis and its subsequent conceptualization, the project was debugging towards the simple a recognizable symbol enhancing from the present its behavior towards the future.

The Color of Time

Dae-hoo Kim shared this beautiful industrial design project for a wall clock titled the Color of Time. The concept of time is like a numerical representation of a moment. Our time is flowing, time and light are most closely related.

Through this design, Dae-hoo Kim wanted to express the continuous change of light with the clock. As the hour hand rotates, you will see a palette that visualizes the light. It shows emotions for the time and continuous light changes during a day. Along with this, even though it is not expressed as a number, it is possible to know intuitively the time through the color of the hour hand, thereby achieving a minimal expression of time.

While the hour hand rotates 360 degrees for 12 hours, the internal color palette rotates 180 degrees. Structurally considering the characteristics of a watch that will have two different lights for a specific time point (AM and PM) for 24 hours a day.

House in the Dunes

chris+frank.jpg

An architect and 3D animation specialist, Michał Szulik is the mastermind behind the House of Dunes project. The beautiful interior and exterior design of this home is a shining example of minimalism, using accent pieces such as walls and hardware to contrast the white negative space that dominates the home. Utilizing a black and white color scheme and reclaimed wood throughout, this home is brilliantly thought-out and decorated. And the most interesting part of this home? It is 100% computer-rendered and not the least bit real. Enjoy the video at the end of the blog which shows a rendered walkthrough of this lovely concept home.

World Cup 2018 - France Illustrated

chris+frank.jpg

In the wake of France taking the victory in the 2018 World Cup Final, French artist Yann Dalon created these stunning illustrations to honor and commemorate this year's champs. Yann combines traditional painting styles such as watercolor and acrylic with digital techniques using Photoshop and a tablet to create his masterpieces, and has a clear mission with his work: he draws and paints with the desire to transcribe movement, with the ambition of 'moving a fixed picture.'

I’m very proud of this work, an order of the French Football Federation (FFF) for the decoration of the Russian Hotel for the World Cup 2018 in the town of Istra. 23 compositions for the doors of each bedroom of the players, 4 for the coach Didier Deschamps and the staff, and 2 big wall murals.
